  • About & Content

The main aim of the ITEC Level 5 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy is to provide experienced Practitioners currently working in Sport and Active Leisure, including Osteopaths, Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists and Sports Massage Practitioners with the requisite understanding and complex skills and techniques to work as an Advanced Sports Massage Practitioner.

    Entry Requirement

Level 4 Sports Massage or if you do not have a level 4 Sports Massage qualification, you can book both of these together to save money!

Advanced Practitioners will be equipped to work with clientele ranging from Recreational Sport and Active Leisure enthusiasts to professional sports persons and elite athletes.

Throughout this qualification, Practitioners will develop an advanced understanding of the biological basis for complex massage/soft tissue methods and the impact of nutrition and hydration on the effects of treatment. The effectiveness of complex/soft tissue methods will also be evaluated as will research undertaken on the use of these methods in Sport and Active Leisure.

Practitioners will develop the understanding and skills to carry out and analyse comprehensive subjective assessments of clients. Practitioners will undertake detailed bio-mechanical assessments, test and analyse the integrity of the muscular and neurological systems and develop complex treatment strategies based on sound clinical reasoning and evidence-based research. Practitioners will also develop the understanding and skills to prepare, apply and evaluate a range of complex Sports Massage/Soft Tissue methods to prevent and manage injury.

Due to the huge variance in content and teaching at Level 4 there will be different durations as follows, this is due to our Level 4 programme being the equivalent of most schools and colleges Level 5 programmes.

For holders of a Level 4 Sports Massage qualification undertaken outside of Active Health Group: 14 days in-class, plus the equivalent of 125 hours case studies (which can have also been done at Level 3/4), plus home study.
