What You Will Study

Our Level 6 Health Coaching and Clinical Nutrition Programme offers a comprehensive, practitioner-focused training pathway that integrates advanced nutritional science with professional health coaching skills. This dual qualification is designed to develop confident, ethical, evidence-informed practitioners who can support clients holistically across physical, emotional and lifestyle domains.

You will gain both the scientific foundations of clinical nutrition and the practical coaching frameworks required to translate knowledge into real-world transformation.

Advanced Nutritional Science, Biochemistry and Metabolism

Develop a strong understanding of nutritional biochemistry, macronutrient and micronutrient metabolism, metabolic flexibility, oxidative stress, inflammation and nutrient-gene interactions. You will explore how nutrition influences cellular health, energy production, hormone balance and immune resilience, and how biochemical imbalances can present as common chronic symptoms.

This course builds your ability to interpret how food becomes biological information, shaping physiology, mood, cognition and long-term health outcomes.

Functional Nutrition Assessment and Client Evaluation

Learn structured assessment frameworks that allow you to build a complete picture of each client’s health. This includes dietary analysis, lifestyle evaluation, health history intake, body composition review, symptom mapping and pattern recognition.

Rather than focusing on isolated symptoms, you will be trained to identify underlying drivers of dysfunction, enabling personalised nutrition and lifestyle strategies. While laboratory testing is explored conceptually, the programme emphasises practical, accessible functional assessment methods suitable for everyday clinical and coaching practice.

Therapeutic Nutrition for Chronic and Complex Conditions

Study evidence-informed nutritional approaches for a wide range of chronic health challenges, including metabolic dysfunction, blood sugar imbalance, cardiovascular health, digestive disorders, inflammatory conditions, hormonal disruption, fatigue syndromes and immune dysregulation.

You will learn how to design targeted nutrition protocols, support behaviour change, and adapt interventions to individual needs, preferences and life circumstances, integrating both clinical nutrition strategies and coaching methodologies.

Integrative Pathophysiology and Systems-Based Health

Understand how nutrition interacts with major body systems including gastrointestinal, neurological, endocrine and immune pathways. You will explore the gut-brain axis, chronic inflammation mechanisms, stress physiology and nutrient-immune relationships, developing a systems-based perspective of health rather than a disease-centred model.

This integrative approach enables you to support clients across interconnected physical, emotional and lifestyle dimensions.

Health Coaching Psychology and Behaviour Change

Build professional coaching skills grounded in psychology, motivational interviewing, habit formation and client-centred communication. You will learn how to support sustainable change through goal setting, accountability, values-based coaching and trauma-aware practice.

This course equips you to work compassionately and effectively with clients navigating complex health journeys, resistance, overwhelm or burnout.

Evidence-Based Practice and Clinical Reasoning

Develop critical appraisal skills to evaluate nutrition and health research. Learn how to translate scientific evidence into safe, ethical and practical strategies. Case formulation, reflective practice and treatment planning are central components, preparing you to make informed decisions in real-world scenarios.

You will also explore professional documentation, outcome tracking and continuous practitioner development.

Professional Practice, Ethics and Scope of Practice

Gain clarity around professional boundaries, informed consent, safeguarding, confidentiality and ethical responsibility. This course prepares you to work confidently within multidisciplinary environments while maintaining appropriate scope of practice as a nutrition and health coaching professional.

You will also explore practitioner wellbeing, supervision and reflective practice to support long-term career sustainability.

Practice Development and Career Pathways

Learn how to establish or grow your professional practice, including client journey design, ethical marketing, practitioner positioning, service packaging and sustainable business models. Whether your goal is private practice, workplace wellbeing, online coaching or integrative health settings, this module supports your transition into professional practice.

Entry Requirements

To enrol, you must have completed the Level 3 Certificate in the Foundations of Health Coaching (Access Course) with Active Health Group. This ensures all learners enter Level 6 with shared foundational knowledge, coaching skills, and ethical awareness.   If you book the Level 6 course before the end of February 2026, you will not be charged for the  Access Course.

Interim Ofqual-Regulated Level 5 Qualifications

A key benefit of training with Active Health Group is the opportunity to gain two interim Ofqual-regulated Level 5 qualifications while completing the full programme.

Partway through the course, learners can achieve:

Level 5 Certificate in Coaching for Health and Wellbeing

Level 5 Certificate in Gut Microbiome and Nutrition

These nationally recognised qualifications allow learners to begin practising sooner, supporting an earn-while-you-learn pathway and reducing the financial pressure often associated with long professional training programmes.

By gaining regulated Level 5 certification along the way, learners can start building professional credibility, working with clients, and generating income while continuing their studies toward full programme completion. This staged qualification structure offers exceptional value for money, faster return on investment, and a smoother transition into professional practice.

Active Health Group is one of the few UK training providers to offer this integrated, step-by-step qualification pathway, combining academic depth with real-world employability.

Professional Recognition and Career Credibility

One of the defining strengths of this programme is the breadth and depth of recognised qualifications achieved within a single training pathway. Graduates do not leave with just one certificate, but with a portfolio of qualifications that demonstrates both academic rigour and professional competence.

During the course, learners achieve:

Ofqual-regulated Level 5 Certificate in Coaching for Health and Wellbeing

Ofqual-regulated Level 5 Certificate in Gut Microbiome and Nutrition

Active Health Group Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Integrative Health and Nutrition Coaching (UKIHCA-approved)

and the final certification upon successful achievement:

Active Health Group Level 6 Diploma in Health Coaching and Clinical Nutrition

Ofqual-regulated Level 6 Diploma in Healthcare and Nutritional Therapy

This layered qualification structure significantly enhances professional credibility, allowing graduates to evidence their training to employers, insurers, clients, and professional bodies.

Achieving multiple qualifications within one programme demonstrates not only subject knowledge, but consistency, depth, and commitment to professional standards. It provides clear reassurance that the graduate has met both regulated academic benchmarks and industry-led professional competencies.

The UKIHCA-approved Advanced Diploma represents the gold standard in health and nutrition coaching training in the UK, confirming that the graduate has been trained in line with national professional standards for whole-health coaching, ethical practice, and lifestyle-based behaviour change.

Together, these qualifications support greater recognition across private practice, corporate wellbeing, integrative health settings, and multidisciplinary environments, positioning graduates as well-trained, credible, and professionally accountable.

Course Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main difference between this course and the AHG Level 5 Health and Nutrition Coaching course? This course builds on the Level 5, and includes the Nutritional Therapy certification. This certification then allows you to work as both a Health Coach and a Nutritional Therapist. You would be able to register with the Federation of Nutritional Therapy Practitioners and work as a certified Nutritional Therapist (and Health Coach). Your scope of practice is much broader as you are dual qualified. You will also be able to join the UK and International Health Coaching Association.

Are there assignments, exams and case studies? How is the course assessed? At the end of most of the modules there will be some type of assignment, usually short essay style, Q&A or self-reflection. There is also an end of course knowledge review. All learners have to undertake 25 coaching sessions, and 25 nutritional therapy sessions, which constitutes your case studies. We give ample training prior to this, and help our learners to access people looking to volunteer. Learners who do not attend 120 hours of live teaching sessions will also have to attend a Viva at the end of the course.

Do you provide client forms and programmes? We provide you with a wide range of client forms, covering both coaching and nutrition. Whilst you are free to use these, we always encourage you to create your own when you know how you best work. We also provide some generic programmes for you, and again, we provide these to use, but more importantly to show you how to create your own that are unique to you, and what you offer. Working generically is not the best way when it comes to working with clients, and we teach you how to tailor the programmes to suit your clients. We also teach how to work with companies that will provide you with blood testing and diagnostic services, so that you can offer an even fuller service to your clients.

What support do you offer? We pride ourselves in offering the best support around! As well as fortnightly supervised online peer support groups, we offer monthly supervision, and pastoral support. We also have a thriving online peer support platform, where our students, mentors and graduates offer each other support. For those who can visit us in Manchester, we offer regular face-to-face networking events at our beautiful Monastery venue. We have a student support team to help you with the day-to-day questions, and tutors are available for anything technical.

Do I need to attend live sessions? We offer live weekly teaching sessions on Zoom, and to enable you to join the UKIHCA as a full member, you need to attend 120 hours of live sessions over the period of your course. We run a weekly session each Thursday from 7pm until 8/30/9pm, plus additional workshops, peer support groups, mentoring groups, and supervision groups, at various times, to allow as many learners as possible the opportunity to attend some live sessions.

Why is your course considerably less than others with similar accreditations? We are quite unique in that we are a not-for-profit training company. Because we do not have to pay out dividends to shareholders, we can keep our course fees low. We also do not employ sales people to sell our courses. If you book a call to discuss a course, you will speak to one of our actual course tutors, who are best placed to give you the most accurate advice about the course and the industry, and don't follow a script.

Which organisations can I join? Upon successful completion of the course, if you have attended 120 hours of live sessions, you will be eligible to join the UKIHCA as a FULL member. If you have not met the 120 hours criteria, you can join them as an affiliate. You can also join IICT, IPHM, FNTP, and we also recommend you join the Nutrition Society.
