About Us
Leaders in Integrative and Complementary Health Education Since 2000
Active Health Group (AHG) has been delivering high-quality, accredited training in complementary and integrative health since 2000. Our journey began in Bradford, West Yorkshire, where we spent our first six years building strong foundations in professional education. After this early period of growth, we relocated to Manchester, where we have now been proudly based for over 20 years.
The move to Manchester was a purposeful one. Founded by a Manchester-born practitioner returning to his roots, the vision was always to establish a respected health and training organisation within the heart of the city. That goal was achieved through years of dedication, innovation, and commitment to professional standards, and today we remain deeply connected to Manchester’s health, education, and wellbeing community.
With more than two decades of experience, Active Health Group has become a trusted provider of professional training across a wide range of disciplines, including health coaching, nutritional therapy, sports therapy, massage, trauma-informed practice, and integrative health. Our programmes are designed to balance robust theoretical learning with practical application, ensuring learners develop both knowledge and professional competence.
We deliver flexible, structured learning through our AHG Online Academy, allowing students across the UK and internationally to access high-quality education supported by experienced tutors. Alongside our online learning programmes, we also provide hands-on practical training for therapists and practitioners. These sessions include disciplines such as soft tissue therapy, acupuncture, Pilates, and specialist professional development courses, delivered in person at the inspiring surroundings of the Gorton Monastery, one of Manchester’s most distinctive and historic venues.
Over the years, our reputation for excellence has led us to collaborate with a wide range of organisations, including universities, awarding bodies, professional associations, elite sports teams, corporations, and industry regulators. We are also recognised for our consultancy and curriculum development work, supporting the advancement of professional standards across the wider health and wellbeing sector.
Active Health Group operates as a not-for-profit training provider, formally registered as Active Wellness Centre Limited, trading as Active Health Group. This structure allows us to reinvest directly into learner support, course development, facilities, and community-based initiatives, ensuring that our work remains purpose-driven and centred on education rather than profit.
At our core, we believe professional education in health and wellbeing should be rigorous, practical, and grounded in real-world experience. Our mission is to equip practitioners with the confidence, skills, and ethical foundations needed to support others safely and effectively, while continuing to uphold the values that have guided our work for more than two decades.
Our Journey
Building professional training pathways for over 25 years
2000 — Established in Bradford, West Yorkshire
Active Health Group began its journey in Bradford, delivering professional training in sports and soft-tissue therapies, as well as health-related disciplines. These early years laid the foundation for a strong reputation built on practical training, professional standards, and learner support.
2006 — Relocation to Manchester
After six successful years in West Yorkshire, the organisation relocated to Manchester. This move marked a significant milestone, returning to the founder’s home city with the clear vision of establishing a respected Manchester-based training organisation.
2006–2015 — Expansion of Professional Training
During this period, training programmes grew significantly to include disciplines such as nutrition, coaching, and rehabilitation-focused therapies. Partnerships developed across professional sectors, strengthening our reputation for delivering industry-relevant education.
2015–2020 — Development of Integrative Health Pathways
As the health and wellbeing landscape evolved, new programmes were introduced to reflect growing interest in integrative approaches. Training expanded into areas such as nutritional therapy, health coaching, and trauma-informed practice, supporting professionals seeking more holistic approaches to client care.
2020–Present — Growth of the AHG Online Academy
Recognising the increasing demand for flexible learning, we expanded our delivery through the AHG Online Academy. This allowed learners across the UK and internationally to access structured, tutor-supported education, while continuing to offer in-person practical training for therapy-based disciplines.
Today — Manchester-Based, Globally Connected
Active Health Group continues to deliver online learning worldwide while providing hands-on professional training in Manchester, including practical courses held at the inspiring surroundings of the Gorton Monastery. Our work remains grounded in the same values that shaped our earliest training: professionalism, integrity, and meaningful education.
