Two-Day Introduction to Myofascial Release for Postural Integration

Every practitioner begins by developing their eyes before developing their hands.

This two-day introduction to Myofascial Release for Postural Integration explores the principles that underpin the discipline, providing the foundations upon which the remainder of the training programme is built. It is an ideal starting point for manual therapists, bodyworkers and movement professionals who want to develop confident, structured myofascial release skills.

Students are introduced to posture as an expression of whole-body organisation, learning to recognise common structural adaptations and the relationships that exist throughout the body.

Why Posture Matters

The programme begins by exploring why posture matters. We consider the body's continual process of adaptation, how inefficient postural organisation influences movement and function, and why structural assessment forms the foundation of effective myofascial treatment.

Understanding Fascia

Students are then introduced to fascia: its architecture, composition and function. Teaching explores collagen, elastin, water and ground substance, together with the superficial, deep and visceral fascial systems. This builds an understanding of fascia as a continuous tissue network that supports movement, organisation and communication throughout the body.

Postural Assessment Skills

Building on these principles, participants learn how to perform a comprehensive postural assessment. Working in pairs, students begin recognising common postural presentations and develop the observational skills required to identify structural relationships throughout the body.

Superficial Myofascial Release Techniques

Practical sessions introduce the principles of cross-handed superficial myofascial release. Students learn to apply the techniques with sensitivity, developing an appreciation for the subtle changes that occur beneath their fingertips as tissue begins to soften and reorganise.

Assessment is woven throughout the practical sessions. Following each treatment application, students reassess posture, observing how structural organisation responds to superficial fascial release and learning to recognise measurable change.

Deep Myofascial Release Techniques

The second day progresses into deep myofascial release techniques. Students explore directional releases, working with the orientation of fascial fibres to complement the superficial techniques introduced on day one.

Developing Therapeutic Touch

Throughout the programme, attention is given to developing therapeutic touch. Students learn to recognise subtle tissue responses, refining palpation skills and building confidence in their ability to feel, rather than simply perform, a technique.

A Continuing Tradition

The modern development of myofascial release owes much to the pioneering work of Dr Ida P. Rolf, whose research during the 1950s helped bring structural bodywork to a wider audience. Her work demonstrated that skilled touch, careful observation and an appreciation of the body's interconnected nature could profoundly influence posture and movement.

This programme continues that tradition while integrating contemporary clinical experience and practical application, helping practitioners develop sensitive hands, thoughtful observation and the confidence to work with the remarkable subtleties of the fascial system.
