Nutrition and Lifestyle CPD for Manual Therapists

Answer the questions your clients actually ask, without stepping outside your scope

Your client asks whether they should be taking collagen. Or whether losing weight would help their back. Or what they should eat to help this heal.

You give an answer. It is probably a reasonable one. But you are not certain it is right, and you are definitely not certain it is yours to give.

Most manual therapists were taught almost nothing about nutrition. What fills the gap is whatever circulates in the profession, picked up from courses, colleagues and the internet, and a fair amount of it does not hold up. You may have told clients that massage releases toxins. Most of us did. It was in the textbook.

Meanwhile the client leaves, and you see them again in a fortnight. Most of what determines whether they improve happens in those two weeks, and almost none of it is on your couch.

Why more information has not solved this

You have probably read around the subject already. Articles, podcasts, a weekend course. It has not made the conversations easier, and there is a reason for that.

The problem is not that you do not know enough about protein. It is that nobody has told you where the line sits. When does explaining become advising? What can you say about supplements without making a claim you cannot defend? When is the right answer "that is a question for your GP", and how do you say it without sounding like you are brushing them off?

Until that is clear, extra knowledge makes things worse rather than better. You know more, so you say more, and you are less sure than ever whether you should have.

This course fixes the boundary first, then fills in the knowledge behind it.

What you get

Supporting Recovery: Nutrition and Lifestyle for Manual Therapists is a 20-hour online CPD course leading to an AHG Professional Certificate. Thirteen modules, studied at your own pace, written for UK practice and referenced throughout to NHS, SACN and peer-reviewed sources.

By the end of it you will be able to:

  • Answer the common questions accurately, so the collagen, creatine, hydration and supplement conversations stop being ones you brace for.

  • Know exactly where your boundary sits, so you can work right up to it with confidence instead of hovering well short of it.

  • Spot what your treatment cannot fix, so a recovery that keeps stalling gets investigated rather than treated for another eight weeks.

  • Raise sleep, stress, alcohol and smoking in an ordinary session, using words that are written out for you rather than left as a principle.

  • Correct misinformation without embarrassing anyone, including the client who was told something wrong by a practitioner they trusted.

  • Refer properly, knowing which professional, for what, and what to write down.

  • Use the AHG RESTORE Model from your next working day, a seven-stage framework that fits inside a consultation you are already having.

Course Content:

Module 1: Nutrition and Scope of Practice — Where your boundary sits, and how to work confidently up to it.

Module 2: Nutrition Fundamentals — What the body actually needs, aimed at recognition rather than recommendation.

Module 3: Nutrition and Musculoskeletal Health — How tissues heal, realistic timescales, and the evidence on collagen.

Module 4: Inflammation and Recovery — Why inflammation is not the enemy, and current thinking on ice, rest and loading.

Module 5: Pain, Fatigue and Energy — Why clients are tired, and the discipline of not concluding.

Module 6: The Injury Journey — The arc of recovery, and why good advice given at the wrong moment lands nowhere.

Module 7: Practical Client Conversations — Why telling people things rarely changes what they do.

Module 8: Hydration — What the evidence says, including the toxins claim and how to retire it.

Module 9: Nutrition Across the Life Stages — Adolescents, older adults, pregnancy, and safeguarding.

Module 10: Nutrition Across Different Circumstances — Long-term conditions, disability, dietary patterns and financial constraint.

Module 11: Supplements — What the evidence supports, and whether you should be selling any of it.

Module 12: Lifestyle Medicine for Manual Therapists — Sleep, stress, alcohol, smoking and social connection, with the words to raise each.

Module 13: The AHG RESTORE Model — The framework that brings it together.

Every module includes reflective activities designed to change what happens in your treatment room, not to be filed and forgotten.

Who this is for

Sports therapists, massage and soft tissue therapists, myofascial therapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, reflexologists and other manual therapy practitioners working in UK practice.

No prior nutrition training is needed. Everything is explained from the ground up.

Who this is not for

This is not a nutrition qualification. It will not qualify you to assess nutritional status, prescribe diets or give personalised dietary advice, and it does not pretend otherwise. If that is what you are looking for, you need a nutrition course rather than a CPD certificate.

It is also not for anyone hoping to be told that supplements work better than the evidence says they do. The course is honest about what is unproven, including some things practitioners are commonly taught.
